The repeal of the pension reform is adopted in committee: a huge setback for Macron and his troops

The New Popular Front keeps its promises. This Wednesday, the repeal of Emmanuel Macron's pension reform was adopted by the Social Affairs Committee of the National Assembly. A clear vote (although, for the moment, symbolic) and a clear setback for the presidential camp: 35 for and 16 against.

” Victory ! See you next Thursday, November 28 in a session to change your life”, welcomed the France Insoumise group, at the origin of the text. The latter must still continue its long legislative journey. The bill (PPL) will be on the agenda, in the hemicycle, in a week, during the FI parliamentary niche. If it is adopted, the communist group in the Senate should welcome it in its niche on January 30, 2025.

“It is the voice of the people that speaks”

This PPL provides for the return of the retirement age to 62 years, instead of 64 as Emmanuel Macron and his government unilaterally decided in 2023, without a vote from the National Assembly. “It’s a huge relief. The first step in a procedure that the Macronists will no longer be able to stop,” rejoices the rebellious Clémence Guetté.

And the environmentalist MP Sandrine Rousseau recalled: “We are representatives of the people and the people reject this pension reform. Through our voices, it is his voice that is expressed. » “I am always surprised by the contempt of what we call the “central bloc” on the question of pension reform, to receive management lessons from those who have managed the country for 7 years”, denounces the communist Yannick Monnet, faced with the attitude of the Macronists who continue to staunchly defend the reform hated by more than 90% of the active population.

While the government's supporters of course voted against the text, the deputies of the National Rally, after procrastinating on the repeal by voting against during the examination of the budget, finally gave their votes. The rest of the battle will therefore be played out on November 28 in a public session, before the Senate, where the right has a large majority, takes it up.
