LFI deputy Thomas Portes receives a call to order for comments made in the Assembly

On October 30, the elected official from Seine-Saint-Denis made insulting remarks to the benches of the National Rally.

The deputy La France insoumise Thomas Portes was sanctioned, Wednesday November 20, by the office of the National Assembly for remarks “threatening and insulting” held in the hemicycle during a question session with the government. The Assembly office, after hearing Thomas Portes, chose by 11 votes to two and one abstention to impose a call to order on him with entry in the minutes, the second possible sanction on a scale of four.

This sanction involves deprivation for one month of a quarter of the parliamentary allowance, or 1,482.99 euros. He was notably accused of having said: “Shut your mouth, you. We’ll take care of you. We’ll explain ourselves outside, you’ll see”addressed to the benches of the National Rally. The scene took place on October 30 during a question session with the government.

In a press release, the President of the Assembly criticized “threatening and insulting remarks” of the member for Seine-Saint-Denis. “MPs have a duty to set an example and must show themselves worthy of the mandate entrusted to them by the French”estimated Yaël Braun-Pivet, emphasizing that Thomas Portes had already been sanctioned in the past.
