LFI deputy Thomas Portes deprived of a quarter of his parliamentary allowance

The rebellious elected official, who had a heated exchange with the RN deputy Philippe Lottiaux in the hemicycle at the end of October, was sanctioned by the office of the National Assembly. He will lose 25% of his parliamentary allowance and will receive 5,430 euros next month instead of 7,239 euros.

A verbal altercation that ends with a sanction. The office of the National Assembly meeting this Wednesday, November 20 decided to impose on La insoumise MP Thomas Portes the withdrawal of a quarter of his parliamentary allowance for one month. He will also receive a call to order with entry in the minutes.

Tense exchanges on the humanitarian situation in Gaza

The relevant scene dates back to October 30. In the middle of a question session with the government, LFI MP Nathalie Oziol speaks in the hemicycle. She then calls on the government about the war waged by Israel in Gaza, in response to the Hamas attack on October 7.

According to the report of the session, RN deputy Julien Odoul then quips: “Ah! It's been a long time.”

Nathalie Oziol discusses the ban on the activities in Israel of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA), voted by the Israeli Parliament, and the ongoing humanitarian situation.

“They are your friends, the terrorists”

The MP then warned that “banning UNRWA is condemning the Palestinian people and UNRWA humanitarian workers to death with abominable suffering”, to the boos of the National Rally and in particular of RN MP Philippe Lottiaux.

“They are your friends, the terrorists!”, says the elected official from Marine Le Pen’s camp.

Response from the rebellious Thomas Portes: “Shut your mouth! We will take care of you, go ahead and get out.” “We’re going to explain ourselves outside, you’ll see,” said the deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis.

“This is scum behavior, unfortunately common on this side of the Assembly,” Philippe Lottiaux then denounced, asking for sanctions.

A deputy already sanctioned during pension reforms

Thomas Portes was exposed to four sanctions which ranged from a simple call to order to a ban on appearing in the chamber for 30 sitting days and deprivation for two months of half of the parliamentary allowance allocated to the MP.

The parliamentarian therefore receives an intermediate sanction. Concretely, he will see a reduction of 1,809 euros in his compensation and will receive 5,430 euros for next month compared to 7,239 euros.

President of the National Observatory of the Far Right, Thomas Portes is a fervent opponent of the RN and regularly confronts Marine Le Pen's movement.

In 2023, it was displayed foot on a balloon bearing the image of Olivier Dussoptthen Minister of Labor, in the middle of a debate on pension reform. The chosen one had then been excluded from the Palais-Bourbon and the work of the Assembly for 15 sitting days.

The year 2023 marked a record: that of the greatest number of deputies sanctioned throughout the 5th Republic. Yaël Braun-Pivet had imposed no less than 24 sanctions against elected representatives of the Assembly. This year, 5 sanctions were imposed.
