The cause: a descent of polar air arriving in France. First of all, heavy rains will bring back bad memories. Rain which will be followed, this Wednesday, by cold air which will bring its share of small showers of snow (from 500 m altitude) and sleet to the plains.
Snowflakes Thursday morning, then rain
Nothing too worrying, except that temperatures will drop. Thus, the mercury bar should flirt with 0°C during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, whether in the Loire or in Haute-Loire.
Thursday morning, snowflakes will fall again on the two departments. Then, during the day, snow mixed with rain.
According to MétéoNews, we should escape the big snow episode as expected. Only a small white layer should cover the tallest clumps and melt fairly quickly.
Strong winds and icy conditions locally
MétéoNews forecasters are warning of two phenomena: fairly strong winds which are expected to blow up to 80 mph during the day on Thursday. And a drop in temperatures could cause patches of ice locally, during the night from Thursday to Friday, in Haute-Loire.
The weekend is already expected to be less cold, with a mild spell predicted from Sunday, and fairly mild temperatures for the season from the start of next week.
