The actor, the first guest of the Belve program which returns on Tuesday evening on Rai2, guest of the journalist Francesca Fagnani, spoke about his private life and career
An unprecedented Riccardo Scamarcio, not at all shady. Francesca Fagnani – who returns tonight, Tuesday, on Rai2 with her “Belve” in prime time – is therefore right when she says that after her scathing interviews people come out better. What is certain is that the protagonist actor of «Modì – Three days on the wings of madness» about the life of the great painter Modigliani directed by Johnny Depp – spoke about himself in an authentic and ironic way.
«It was complicated to remain passive. Seven hours of pretending to have sex, at a certain point one then… one gets tired, we are made of flesh and blood!»: one of the funniest moments of the interview in which Scamarcio recounts the famous scene of Manual of love 2with Monica Bellucci. Pressure from the journalist towards the actor. Question: «For Monica Bellucci that was “the most erotic scene she has ever played”. Is it mutual?”. The actor is almost forced to confess, not without some laughter: «I can reciprocate, of course. But with that scene I earned the hatred of many men. I was in a wheelchair, it was a “soft” experience. It was complicated to remain passive.” Fagnani doesn’t give up: «Why did the scene last until four in the morning?». Scamarcio’s attempts to gloss over were useless: «Let’s move on to something else, right?». In the end the actor gives in: «Seven hours of pretending to have sex, that is, at a certain point one then… one gets tired, we are made of flesh and blood! One can also have involuntary reactions.”
Not just sex in the chat with the 45-year-old actor. An important chapter is that of his childhood, passed in the Apulian city of Andria. A complicated youth also due to drugs: «I tried almost everything. I was smoking pot in the historic center of Andria.” Although he stresses that he has never had “an addiction”.
And then we talk about cinema. Not just the successes, da Three meters above the sky onwards, but also the conflicts with colleagues and directors. Fagnani does not miss the opportunity to bring up the controversy over the few awards received: «They all won. But it is clear that you must not step on the toes of the wrong ones”, confides Scamarcio, recalling the argument with Ferzan Özpetek. «I have stepped on many toes of those who matter, directors and producers, especially when I was young. When it happened I went to work abroad and calmed things down.”
And there is also room for love. We talk about the long love story between Scamarcio and the actress Valeria Golino, to whom he remained linked from 2006 to 2018. The two met in 2005 on the set of the film Texas and love immediately broke out between them. The causes that led to their separation, which apparently came suddenly just when the two actors were planning their wedding, are unclear. At the end of this relationship, Scamarcio then became romantically linked to the manager Angharad Wood, with whom she gave birth to her daughter Emily in 2020. And we arrive at today, a phase of life in which the actor would like to free himself from the labels of “dark” and “obscure”. “Lately I’ve tended towards white,” she says, explaining that she has left behind an internal restlessness. “I found peace of mind.” And perhaps, in this, the relationship with the actress Benedetta Porcaroli, 19 years younger than him, it has something to do with it. And he says he admits: «Yes, I’m in love».
