League B – Group 4: Wales still catches Turkey

  • Montenegro – Türkiye 3:1
  • Wales – Island 4:1

The last matchday of the Nations League ended in great disappointment for Turkey. Coach Vincenzo Montella’s team traveled to Montenegro as Group 4 leaders with a two-point lead over Wales. In the last game with no points, the Turks suffered a surprising 1:3 defeat. Nikola Krstovic shot the Montenegrins to victory with a hat-trick. Kenan Yildiz was able to equalize to make it 1-1.

Wales benefited from Turkey’s slip-up, which now has to take the detour via the promotion playoffs. The British defeated Iceland 4-1 at home and are now promoted to League A. However, the game against the Icelanders got off to a bad start. Andri Gudjohnsen shot the guests into the lead in the 7th minute. Liam Cullen turned the game around with two goals before the break. Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson made the decision in the second half.

League B – Group 1: Czech Republic is through, Albania is relegated

  • Czech Republic – Georgia 2:1
  • Albania – Ukraine 1:2

In Group 1, the starting position before the last match day was exciting. Three teams, the Czech Republic, Georgia and Albania, were still fighting for direct promotion. The Czechs won this three-way battle thanks to a 2-1 home win against Georgia. Pavel Sulc and Adam Hlozek gave the Czech Republic an early 2-0 lead. The guests were only able to shorten the score through Georges Mikautadze. Georgia also missed the promotion playoffs.

Ukraine ultimately secured this place. Having entered the final round as bottom, coach Sergej Rebrow’s team moved up to second place thanks to a 2-1 win in Albania. Aleksander Zinchenko and Roman Yaremchuk gave the Ukrainians a 2-0 lead by the 10th minute. Former GC player Nedim Bajrami scored the only goal for the Albanians with a penalty in the 75th minute, who now have to move to League C.

League A – Group 3: Germany and Netherlands with a draw

  • Hungary – Germany 1:1
  • Bosnia-Herzegovina – Netherlands 1-1

After the exhilarating 7-0 home win against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday, group winners Germany had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Hungary in Budapest. The DFB team, which had changed positions in many positions, took the lead with a quarter of an hour to go through Felix Nmecha. The Hungarians were able to equalize in the 9th minute of injury time. Dominik Szoboszlai stayed cool with a hands penalty and beat keeper Alexander Nübel.

The Netherlands also couldn’t get past a 1-1 draw in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Oranje lead by Brian Brobbey was canceled out by Erdemin Demirovic.
