At the ceremony held at the Dutch State Archives, Presidential State Archives President Muhammet Ahmet Tokdemir and Dutch National Archives President Afelonne Doek signed the cooperation protocol.
Speaking at the ceremony, Turkey’s Ambassador to the Hague, Selçuk Ünal, touched upon the 5-century history of diplomatic relations between the two countries and pointed out that the important documents and resources in the archives reflect the richness of the deep relations between the two countries.
At the conference held on the occasion of the protocol, Ankara Social Sciences University lecturer Dr. While Alaeddin Tekin discusses the historical dimension of Türkiye-Netherlands relations, Leiden University lecturer Dr. Rosanne Baars made a presentation about the position of women in Ottoman-Dutch diplomatic relations.
Members of the Testa family, the historical heir of the Ottoman-Dutch diplomatic relations, also attended the ceremony, who also attended the document presentation ceremony held in Amsterdam yesterday.
Within the scope of the signed protocol, the third original copy of the letter of credence regarding the appointment of Gaspar Testa as the Netherlands’ representative in Istanbul in 1815 was gifted to the Dutch Archives.
