66 million years after their disappearance, dinosaurs are still alive and well on our screens. The Jurassic saga which we thought was definitively extinct after “Jurassic World: The World After” will return in July 2025 for a seventh part. And the director's recent statements will reassure fans.
Jurassic World 4: hope is reborn
For many movie fans, Steven Spielberg's “Jurassic Park” is in the pantheon of the greatest films in history. How to resist it? By adapting Michael Crichton's novel, he fulfilled the fantasy of many spectators, by summoning the dinosaurs into our reality, between terror and wonder.
After the success of the first film, a franchise was born, and in total, six films were released in theaters, totaling nearly six billion dollars at the worldwide box office. Two trilogies have emerged: that of Jurassic Park (1993-2001), and that of Jurassic World (2015-2022).
Unfortunately, the final part of the latter, THE WORLD AFTERwas a huge disappointment for many fans. While we were promised the long-awaited face-to-face between the dinosaurs, who now lived among us, and humans, the result was far below expectations. And the presence of the cast of the first film was not enough to satisfy spectators.
To everyone's surprise, a fourth Jurassic World film, aptly named “Jurassic World Renaissance” has been announced, and it has serious arguments to give us hope: the return of David Koepp, screenwriter of “Jurassic Park”, Gareth Edwards to the production, and an excellent cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali.
While the film will be released in theaters in July 2025, Empire Magazine has revealed a brand new glimpse of Scarlett Johansson in the tall grass (huge mistake), armed with a tranquilizer gun, ready to draw at the slightest raptor attack.
Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali : le nouveau trio Jurassic
One of the strengths of the first “Jurassic Park” films was its cult trio: Sam Neill (Alan Grant), Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler) and Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm). These iconic characters helped make the franchise unforgettable. With “Jurassic World Renaissance”, Gareth Edwards seems to want to recreate this dynamic by introducing a whole new trio of protagonists, carried by top-tier talents: Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali.
Scarlett Johansson, known worldwide for her role as Natasha Romanoff in the Marvel universe (“Black Widow”, “Avengers”), takes on the lead role of Zora Bennett, a former soldier in search of redemption. After leaving the army, she finds herself leading a perilous mission to recover dinosaur DNA to create a revolutionary cure.
Jonathan Bailey, rising star revealed by his role as Anthony Bridgerton in THE BRIDGERTON CHRONICLEalso headliner of the series FELLOW TRAVELERS, and soon to appear in “Wicked”, plays the role of Dr. Henry Loomis, an experienced paleontologist. Passionate about dinosaurs and fascinated by the importance of this mission, Loomis is the scientific voice of the team, seeking to balance exploration and respect for these legendary creatures. Bailey, with his charisma and sense of drama, embodies a character who is both erudite and adventurous, anchored in the legacy of iconic figures like Alan Grant.
Mahershala Ali, twice Oscar winner for his roles in MOONLIGHT et GREEN BOOKplays Duncan Kincaid, Zora Bennett's partner in the field. Also a former soldier, Duncan is a pragmatic man of action, but whose motivations are sometimes ambivalent.
Gareth Edwards promises a return to basics
“Jurassic World Renaissance” takes place five years after the events of the previous film. While dinosaurs had been released all over the world, the planet has now become largely inhospitable to these prehistoric creatures. Surviving dinosaurs retreated to isolated equatorial areas, where climatic conditions are reminiscent of the tropical environments in which they thrived during the Mesozoic era.
An expert, Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), is hired for a secret mission: she must recover the DNA of three dinosaurs in a remote and dangerous area. Once there, Zora and her team come across a father and his children whose boat has capsized. All together, they will try to survive without being bitten.
For director Gareth Edwards, this new opus marks a true renaissance of the franchise. In a recent interview, he said he wanted to capture the essence of Steven Spielberg's first “Jurassic Park” and go back to basics. Excellent news for all those disappointed with “Jurassic World 3”. He also promised that we would find iconic dinosaurs. We are therefore firmly awaiting the return of the T-Rex, the Raptors, and the Brachiosaurus.
