“Rgive me my son Adam.” Brandie on a banner during a demonstration in Menton in March 2022, this plea still remains unanswered. It's almost four years since Hind Hamdaoui, in his forties from Menton, last saw his eldest son. This Monday in Nice, his father was sentenced for having kidnapped him.
The criminal court imposed a year in prison on Farid B., 39 years old. He issued an international arrest warrant against this former lawyer in Monaco, originally from Nice. He now resides in the United Arab Emirates with Adam. Much to the despair of his mother.
Father and son went to Dubai at the end of 2019, for a professional meeting. Nothing unusual so far. “At beginning, [sa mère] East agree for him to leave. They've done it many times before,” rapexclaims President Marion Menot. But Farid B. wants to establish himself in the Persian Gulf. Hind Hamdaoui refuses. Assures her that she agreed. The couple is torn apart.
Decision without effect
Hind Hamdaoui goes with his youngest son to the Emirates. She wants to bring her two children back to Menton. She found herself stuck in a hotel in Dubai for five months. The father confiscated the children's passports. She ends up leaving with her youngest, but without Adam, with death in her soul.
In 2022, Hind Hamdaoui won his case before the family affairs judge in Nice. She obtained parental authority over her two children and domiciled them in Menton. This decision has since become final. But due to the lack of a cooperation agreement between France and the Emirates, it remains ineffective.
Hind Hamdaoui seized an investigating judge and publicized his fight. She files a complaint against Farid B. for the violence allegedly suffered by Adam, and for having forged a signature. She stamps her feet, and worries. She maintains that “the father has become radicalized. He is educating their son according to Sharia law,” reports Marion Menot.
Disturbing photos
Father and son live in Sharjah, one of the seven United Arab Emirates. Adam would refuse to return to France, on the grounds that his native country is not Muslim. The videos received by her mother hardly reassure her. We can see Farid B. and Adam in military uniform. The young boy wields a rifle, pistol and knife. Whether they are fake weapons or not, the effect is striking.
“This is what the child has become. This is where we are! We can see the before and after,” laments Me Houde Khadraoui-Zgaren, supporting photos. This is why Adam, 7 and a half years old, is today separated from his brother, aged 5, underlines Me Laurent Nicolas. He calls on justice to be “an exemplary response for a father who replaces French justice”.
The court sentences Farid B. to one year, in accordance with the requisitions of prosecutor Mégane Nomel. A sentence rendered without the adverse version, and for good reason: he is neither present nor represented. Me Marie Seguin, without news of her client since this summer, had to give up defending him. As for his ex-partner, very distressed, she was in no condition to go to court once again.
