Weather
warnings for snow and ice have been issued for Northern Ireland from 18:00 on Tuesday until 10:00 on Wednesday.
Wintry
showers are expected to develop on Tuesday evening and continue overnight into
Wednesday morning.
Away
from the north coast, lying snow is possible, with 1 to 2 cm in places and up
to 5cm over higher ground.
However,
it is important to note that the nature of showers mean that most places will
avoid snow altogether.
Ice
is also likely to form readily on untreated surfaces, leading to hazardous
conditions
The
warning follows snowfall, mainly over hills and mountains, in northern Ireland
on Monday night.
Between
5 to 10 cm of snow was forecast to fall over the likes of the Sperrin and
Mourne Mountains.
Meanwhile,
Met Éireann has issued a similar warning for low temperatures and ice across
the Republic of Ireland.
It
runs from 20:00 on Tuesday until 10:00 on Wednesday.
The
organisation is warning of hazardous conditions on roads and paths,
particularly in untreated areas, with a risk of travel disruption.
Meanwhile, –
one school is closed, with Holy Evangelists school in Dunmurry closed as the heating
isn’t working.
