Val-Thorens: several injured in a cable car accident

The accident occurred at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters. Tuesday morning, around 7:30 a.m., a cabin of the Cime Caron cable car, in the Val-Thorens ski area, in Savoie (F) hit the arrival station. According to the Savoie prefecture, the infrastructure was used as part of an ongoing construction site and transported sixteen workers. Two people were seriously injured, with no life-threatening injuries. Four others were slightly injured.

The prefect of Savoie specifies that “the weather conditions on site are very difficult”. And indicates that “significant resources from the departmental fire and rescue service and the Savoie SAMU are committed to caring for the victims”. The resort’s rescue trackers, the Republican Security Company of the Alps and the high mountain gendarmerie platoon are also mobilized. “All the victims and people involved are being evacuated by the Orelle-Caron cable car,” concludes the prefect.

The Savoyard resort of Val Thorens plans to inaugurate its winter season on Saturday. Located at high altitude, it is, along with Tignes, one of the first resorts to open at the arrival of the cold season.
