Normandy, Centre-Val de Loire, Burgundy-Franche-Comté… Snowfall is expected in several regions of northern France this Thursday, November 21. Île-de-France could also see snowflakes.
Thursday is snow day! With all the usual precautions, Météo-France forecaster François Gourand details to BFMTV.com the snowy episode expected in France this Thursday, November 21, over a large part of the country.
“The forecasts are being refined,” he indicates, before specifying that this meteorological situation is linked to the formation of a “small depression which will arrive from the Atlantic”.
Where should we expect this likely snow? “Areas are a priori more concerned: eastern Brittany, Lower Normandy and Center-Val de Loire,” specifies the forecaster. With more uncertainties, he also cites “probable” “overflows in Île-de-France”, particularly in the southern part.
As the day goes by, this snow should move to the east, and in particular to the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region and the north-east.
Up to ten centimeters in the Vosges
The forecaster gives the color: “we can expect soils to turn white, with a few centimeters of snow. It is difficult to say much more at this stage.” In detail, “around 2 to 5cm” of snow volumes are expected “in most of the regions concerned”.
Larger volumes could be reached in the morning on the Normandy hills, but also in the East, where the Vosges could see around ten centimeters accumulate.
However, the snow is not expected to hold uniformly. It could remain on the ground on colder surfaces, particularly vegetated ones. There, it should “hold up more than on the roads” and “urbanized areas where it is hotter”. How to avoid the endless images of hassles on the roads?
It remains to be noted that this episode, occurring at the end of November, is not so exceptional in the eyes of the forecaster, who recalls that meteorological winter begins on December 1st. “That it snows at the end of November, in the north of the country, in the plains, does not seem so exceptional to me, even if it does not happen every year,” he believes, noting however the context of warming of the temperatures.
