Pastef’s provisional victory: Ousmane Sonko must chair Parliament, according to Alioune Tine

Ousmane Sonko must leave the prime ministership for the presidency of the National Assembly. This is the opinion of the founder of Afrikajom Center, Alioune Tine. The dean of Senegalese civil society affirms that this is the only possible configuration to ensure the balance of powers, because, he says, the current Prime Minister can “promote parliamentary power, which is one of the major mechanisms of transformation of society. To serve Senegal and contribute to the balance of powers, he must occupy the presidency of Parliament. President of Parliament, Ousmane Sonko will make it a power that it has never been in political history,” wrote Alioune Tine on the social network X this Monday, November 18.

In addition, this provisional victory of the Pastef coalition must return the National Assembly to its initial role. Indeed, for Mr. Tine, “we can densify Parliament by strengthening the capacities of parliamentarians through the recruitment of parliamentary assistants who support, advise and guide effectively. Consult and agree on an effective, competent, experienced and political Prime Minister. Political intelligence aware of the political, economic, social and ecological issues of the moment, to act accordingly.” This, without leaving the opposition stranded which, according to him, “must be recognized as an institution”, because “the systemic break” must be made with all Senegalese in “respect for the values of the Republic and in respect for equality”.
