Pakistan vs Australia: Babar Azam Overtakes Virat Kohli, Close To Becoming….

Babar Azam overtook Virat Kohli and moved to the second spot in the list of batsmen with the most T20I runs. The former Pakistan captain achieved the milestone in the 3rd and final T20I of the series against Australia. Babar had 4151 runs in his account before the start of the final game of the series.

The right-handed batsman played a 41-run knock in Hobart to move past Virat Kohli in the elite list. Babar now has 4192 runs in 126 matches. He sits next to Rohit Sharmawho has 4231 runs in 159 matches. Babar still has a long career ahead of him and he can become the first player to complete 5000 runs in T20Is. He is close to becoming the highest run-scorer in T20Is.

Virat and Rohit retired from T20I cricket after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. Virat ended his career with 4188 runs. Ireland’s Paul Stirling sits at the 4th spot. He has 3655 runs in 147 matches. He is followed by Martin Guptill, who scored 3531 runs in 122 matches.

Pakistan lose T20I series

Pakistan lost all three T20Is of the series against Australia and got whitewashed 0-3. The Mohammad Rizwan-led team kicked off the series by losing the first ODI. Pakistan won the next two ODI to clinch the series. The T20I series had a one-sided result and Pakistan lost all three matches. They are now scheduled to tour Zimbabwe for a white-ball series. This will be the first series for head coach Aaqib Javed.

He has replaced Jason Gillespie and taken over as the white-ball team’s head coach on a stand-in basis. Gillespie continues to be Pakistan’s red-ball coach. Gary Kirsten joined Pakistan as their white-ball coach early in 2024 but his stint lasted just six months. Pakistan crashed out of the league stage of the 2024 T20 WC.
