“Time for winter tires”: Polar air brings snow to the lowlands

On Monday and Tuesday temperatures over ten degrees are still possible, then it will get colder day by day. “Responsible for this is a cold front that will bring cold and moist polar air to us from Tuesday to Wednesday,” says meteorologist Peter Wick to 20 Minutes.

Peter Wick assumes that it will also be white in the lowlands on Thursday and Friday. “It is still unclear exactly how much snow there will be, as the models indicate different amounts.” Between five and 20 centimeters are predicted.

The Federal Meteorological Office expects up to 80 centimeters of fresh snow in the mountains by Thursday morning. There is still no forecast for the period after that. Temperatures of around three degrees are forecast for Thursday in the lowlands. Snowfall down to low altitudes is likely to occur in the second half of the day.

“It’s definitely high time to install the winter tires,” continues Peter Wick. While a maximum temperature of eight degrees is expected tomorrow, Monday, the temperature on the thermometer is falling further every day.

From Wednesday around five degrees are expected in the lowlands, while in Ticino it can still be up to ten degrees when the sun is shining. On Thursday only two degrees are expected in the lowlands, and by the end of the week it will only be one degree, as Meteo Switzerland writes.
