In Budapest, Belgium was beaten again, by Israel who won their first victory (1-0). The Red Devils will play a play-off at the end of March to stay in League A. A League A which England will return to after a card for the last of Lee Carsley and in which Norway was promoted by a fiery Erling Haaland .
Belgium ended the year 2024 with a new misadventure. Sunday evening in Budapest, under heavy fog, Loïs Openda's teammates conceded one more defeat, the 4th in 6 Nations League matches against Israel, which therefore won its first victory in this edition, a few days after having held in defeat the Blues at the Stade de France (0-0). If the 81st nation in the world is relegated to League B, it will have put all its heart into finally achieving its success thanks to the achievement of Yarden Shua (1-0, 86th). Belgium, for its part, was imprecise, notably via Loïs Openda and, deprived of many players, was therefore unable to avoid one last false note. At the end of March, Belgium will play a play-off against a runner-up in League B in an attempt to stay in League A. It remains to be seen whether this will be with Domenico Tedesco on the bench.
England ends with a card for the last of Carsley, Haaland carries Norway
Lee Carsley won't have any problems like that. For his last as interim coach before Thomas Tuchel took over from January 1, Carsley saw his players put on a great show at Wembley to finally win against Ireland (5-0) in a success which took shape upon returning from the locker room. The Three Lions waited until the second half to score three goals in five minutes, via Harry Kane (53rd from the penalty spot), Anthony Gordon (55th) and Connor Gallagher (58th), before Jarrod Bowen (75th) then Taylor Harwood-Bellis ( 79th) do not participate in the festival. With 15 points, England finished first in their group ahead of Greece, and were therefore promoted to League A.
League A will also be the future of Norway which, on Sunday evening in Oslo, defeated Kazakhstan thanks in particular to a hat-trick from Erling Haaland (5-0). Austria, ahead at the start of the matches, having been held in check by Slovenia (1-1), it is Haaland's teammates who will play in the elite of the League of Nations with, therefore, a very inspired striker who scored a hat-trick (23rd, 37th, 71st). Alexander Sorloth and Antonio Nusa also scored for a clear success for Norway who will discover League A following this successful last day.
