Mexico City, Nov 17 (EFE).- The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the chancellor of Panama, Javier Martínez-Acha, held a bilateral meeting this Sunday, where they discussed key issues for strengthening relations between both countries .
The meeting at the Tocumen International Airport, in the Panamanian capital, focused on priority issues such as trade, cooperation, migration, security and investment, with a view to consolidating mutual development and facing common challenges.
During the conversation, according to an informative note, Sheinbaum expressed his solidarity with Panama after the recent floods that affected the country, highlighting the historical friendship between both nations.
One of the highlighted topics was the interest of the Mexican president in the Panama Canal, a strategic infrastructure for international trade.
In addition, it was reported that the Mexican Foreign Minister, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, was also present at the meeting, who invited his Panamanian counterpart to visit the country in order to deepen the bilateral relationship and coordinate an upcoming meeting between Sheinbaum and the Panamanian president. José Raúl Mulino.
For its part, the Foreign Ministry of Panama indicated that its head Martínez-Acha highlighted the value of the exchange of ideas and joint actions as key tools to advance shared objectives.
The meeting was held within the framework of the first international tour of the Mexican president after taking office on October 1, who then went to Rio de Janeiro, for the G20 meeting, in Brazil, on a commercial flight, “in congruence with the principle of republican austerity that his government upholds,” according to the note from the Mexican presidency.
