Yaya and Carl, a couple of models and influencers with sculptural beauty, are invited on a yacht for a luxury cruise, where they find themselves in the company of the world's greatest fortunes: tech millionaires, Russian oligarchs enriched by the sale of fertilizer, uninhibited British arms dealers. While the crew – with the exception of the captain, a Marxist and alcoholic, who is absent – struggles to satisfy the whims of all these beautiful people, the cruise turns into a fiasco when a storm breaks out in the middle of the gala dinner. For boaters tossed about by the waves, the troubles are only just beginning… Sociological experiment It was a Palme d'Or which divided the Croisette, and for good reason: awarded for the second time after The Square, Ruben Östlund is not in the lace with this acid farce with raw humor, assumed cynicism, which paints a less than stellar – nevertheless hilarious – portrait of contemporary society, its power relations… and of human nature. If the first two chapters attack the sad vanities of the fashion world and the stupidity of the powerful, the third act enjoys overturning the relationships of domination in a model of sociological experience: stranded on a desert island, where money no longer counts, who of the ultra-rich or those who serve them will be able to make the most of the game? In the middle of this carnival of characters, all brilliantly played, the young couple who clumsily tries to brave the storm tinges the farce with a touch of melancholy.
