Anger of farmers: where will they demonstrate and what to expect this Monday in and ?

As the G20 summit begins in Rio, Brazil this Monday, farmers have chosen to massively relaunch their movement of anger. A little more than 80 demonstration points are planned.

Convoys of tractors, “fires of anger”, filter dams… The anger of farmers will resume during a day of national mobilization this Monday, November 18, 2024. The National Federation of Farmers' Unions (FNSEA) and its ally Youth farmers (JA) have chosen to relaunch last year's movement by taking part in particular against the free trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur. A date of demonstration which corresponds with the opening of the G20 summit in Rio, Brazil this Monday.

Do not “block” or “annoy” the French

The actions called “Fires of Wrath” are announced by numerous local branches of the FNSEA. These lightings of fires would take place in particular on the evening of Monday in (Côte-d'Or), in (), in (Tarn-et-Garonne) or even in (Aveyron). A little more than 80 farmer mobilizations are planned for this Monday and Tuesday throughout the territory, according to president of the FNSEA Arnaud Rousseau. Filter blockages are planned in Nîmes () or Sablons (Isère). Snail operations could also be organized at certain points. According to Arnaud Rousseau, speaking to BFMTV this Sunday, the objective of the mobilization is not to “block” or “annoy” the French, but “to send them the message that the situation facing agriculture today is an emergency situation, dramatic in some places.”

On the Rural Coordination side, the second agricultural union in the country, we are calling for mobilization in certain sectors from Tuesday, November 19.
