New images show how photographer (?) brings down Iserbyt: “Cannot be seen on TV, but grabbed my shoulder”
A new saga in the so far annoying cyclocross season for Eli Iserbyt. The West Flemish rider crashed early in the Flandriencross in Hamme and appeared in front of the cameras after the race with a taped finger. Iserbyt was particularly bothered by the cause of the crash. “I was taken completely by a photographer,” he said himself.
The fact that it is not Eli Iserbyt’s season for the time being was painfully emphasized again today. The Belgian champion crashed early in the Flandriencross.
After the match, Iserbyt took his time in the care tent and then appeared in front of the camera with a taped finger. “I think I got a spoke on my finger,” he said, clearly disappointed.
“You didn’t see it on TV, but a photographer (although it is not clear from the images whether it is an official photographer or a supporter, ed.) grabbed me by the shoulder and that caused me to jump off the track at high speed. That’s how I fall and everyone rides on me.”
“You don’t expect someone to hang so far over the wire, especially with a camera that is half a meter long. That was really a shame.”

That is, Iserby
Iserbyt recovered very well after that and almost took the victory. “It’s a pity that I couldn’t take the win anymore,” he was disappointed.
“I was actually always looking for Lars van der Haar’s wheel for the rankings, because after that fall he was close to me. He also took me to the leading group. Then I just wanted to ride in the lead to get Lars behind me. In the last round I saw that a win was suddenly still possible.”
After today, the Belgian champion is approaching within 2 seconds of the leading spot in the rankings. “That’s good. And I certainly didn’t expect that halfway through cross.”
All in all, a boost for Iserbyt, despite the nasty fall. “It’s good to be 2nd here again, I think I needed that. Now we’re going to work towards that first World Cup.”
