A small point, a crumbly defense: Israel can still avoid the dunce cap in the League of Nations

Israel’s sporting setbacks are not limited to the Nations League. The whole of 2024 has been difficult. Iceland blocked their path to the Euro in March (1-4). And they have only recorded one victory in 8 matches, against Belarus in a friendly.

Exiled in Hungary, Israel cannot count on the support of its supporters. Ben Shimon’s selection also displays the smallest home attendance in League A with barely 2,000 spectators on average. Maybe that’s part of the explanation. Even if on paper, the results are not really surprising. The 81st nation in the FIFA rankings does not really play in the same division as its opponents in Group 2, all members of the Top 10.

A misstep from our selection would look really bad. In its current position, the much criticized Domenico Tedesco can’t afford it. Even if he recorded around ten packages this week.

In 8 confrontations, Belgium has only lost once against Israel. A defeat which dates back to November 1978 in a friendly (1-0). The Devils won all the other duels.
