Switzerland, a childhood dream
A love at first sight that hasn't aged a bit, as the singer enjoys her Swiss lair. “A new life in a new house, with new toilets and everything else new too, that's all I needed,” the singer laughs, dripping a bag of black tea over her cup. I am really happy here and very productive. It's important, the artist's house. I lived three and a half years in Paris, I composed or wrote very little there.” Switzerland was also and above all a childhood dream. “When I was 14, I bought a plane ticket to come here with the money I earned from small secretarial jobs and the guitar lessons I gave,” she says. I loved jazz and skiing. The most beautiful jazz festival was in Montreux, on the edge of a magnificent lake. Just behind, there were the most beautiful mountains in the world. For me, Switzerland was paradise on earth. Obviously, my mother refused to let me go, telling me I was crazy, and forced me to resell the ticket. Instead, she and I spent the entire summer driving around in the Rockies in an RV. It was great. I had very few happy moments with my mother, but this was definitely one.” She’s like that, Diane. Spontaneous, funny, curious about everything. A nomad at heart, she has traveled everywhere, met many people, from the most anonymous to the most famous, but remains fiercely attached to her solitude. “I was born in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, in the Far North,” she explains. As a child, I really loved nature, the forest, the snow, the cold. I was a bit of a tomboy and would have happily been an adventurer. Or trucker. I've always loved trucks. I would have been very happy.”
