Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, representing Denmark, was crowned Miss Universe on the night of Saturday to Sunday, November 17 from the CDMX Arena in Mexico City, Mexico. The 21 year old young woman succeeds Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaraguacrowned during the previous edition.
The representative of Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, finished first runner-up. Maria Fernanda Beltran Figueroa, Miss Mexico, finished in 3rd place in the beauty contest. The Thai and the Venezuelan complete the top 5. This year, there were 127 of them hoping win the famous crown. For the first time since the Frenchwoman Iris Mittenaere, in 2016, it is a European who wins the competition.
For her part, Frenchwoman Indira Ampiot wanted to bring the title home. It was she who was called first to announce the 30 selected but the one who was crowned Miss France 2023 did not manage to do better than Diane Leyre, last year, who also did not manage to climb into the Top 12. The Guadeloupean competed alongside her compatriot , Coraly Desplan who presented herself independently for the first time since 1984. Martinique did the same with Catherine Édouard.
Among the new features this year, no age limit was imposed on participants whereas previously they had to be aged 28 or less on election day. For this edition, 24 participants were aged over 30, including the oldest Miss Malta, Beatrice Njoya, who has just celebrated her 40th birthday. Twelve countries, including Iran, Eritrea and Somalia also participated for the first time.
