After the abandonment of the generalization of two additional hours of weekly sport in middle school, several French champions reacted to be surprised by this decision, asFour-time Olympic swimming champion Léon Marchand.
Questioned by BFMTV this Friday, Iséroise Mélina Robert-Michon also regretted this choice. “Obviously, like everyone else, I find it a shame. A priori in the places where there have been tests, it was rather positive (…) It's even more frustrating to say that we tried, we saw that it worked and we won't put in place because it’s too complicated,” reacted the standard bearer of the French team at the 2024 Olympics.
For discobole, this type of initiative should be fully supported, because it goes beyond sport. “Children move less and less. School is an opportunity to catch up on that. They have this minimum. We no longer even talk about sport but about health (…) It is an opportunity for some to discover sport, other disciplines. There are always good reasons to do sport. They will not all be champions but they will all have benefited from playing sport. With the Olympics, we created a dynamic, it’s a shame not to take full advantage of it,” concluded the Olympic silver medalist in Sydney in 2016.
