With the approach of the match against the DRC counting for the fifth and penultimate day of the CAN 2025 qualifiers, Guinea announced the expansion of its squad.
In a press release, the Federation Guinean de football (FGF) informed of the extension of its squad to 24 players. Midfielder Ibrahima Fofana (Hammarby) has indeed joined Syli National in Abidjan to face the Leopards of RDCFriday, as part of the fifth and penultimate day of qualifying for the CAN 2025.
This last minute reinforcement suggested a replacement in the group of Saïdou Sow (Strasbourg), but this is not the case. At least according to coach Michel Dussuyer. During a press conference the day before the match, the French technician implicitly denied the rumors of a probable withdrawal of the central defender.
Saïdou Sow is doing well, assures Dussuyer
“Saidou trained this week with a slightly modified program. It’s true that it had to be taken care of. We will take stock, but for now everything is fine”declared the former boss of the Elephants of Ivory Coast. Former captain of Syli U23 which he led to fourth place in the CAN in the category last year, Ibrahima Fofana will perhaps play his first minutes in the A team.
Guinea, second in Group H with only two points ahead of Tanzania, third, would be well inspired to achieve victory in their next match. For fear of being overtaken in the rankings before a potential final with the Taifa Stars next Tuesday.
