Stopped in added time when the two teams were about to part ways, the match between Romania and Kosovo (0-0) has continued to generate ink since Friday evening. It counted for the fifth day of Pool 2 of Group C of the League of Nations which the Romanian selection largely dominates. Both teams are now awaiting a decision from UEFA after the match was prematurely abandoned. Romania should logically win this one.
LOSC striker Edon Zhegrova and his partners nevertheless thought they could hold the point of a draw which would not have changed much in their destiny. But in the eighth minute of added time, the Kosovars decided to return to the locker room in reaction to the chants of the Romanian supporters who they considered hostile towards their country.
In a video, we first see Kosovar defender Amri Rrahmani in an altercation with several opponents. In the confusion, the referee gives a warning to the other central defender Dellova while several Kosovars appear to respond to the public. They believe they are victims of anti-Kosovan provocations by reporting the chants of Romanian supporters (“Serbia, Serbia“). Romania does not recognize the independence of Kosovo, which was once a predominantly Albanian enclave within Serbia. Violent fighting took place between Serbs and Kosovars during the war in the former Yugoslavia (1991-2001).
