Mike Tyson, crushed in the ring by YouTuber Jake Paul

Mike Tyson had not participated in a professional boxing match since his defeat against Kevin McBride in 2005. A failure which cost him his title of world heavyweight champion. At the age of 58, the former legend of the discipline put on his gloves again to face Jake Paul, a controversial 27-year-old American YouTuber. The meeting took place on the night of November 15 to 16 in Arlington, Texas.

The former professional, in difficulty from the start, was unable to do anything against Jake Paul, who easily won after eight two-minute rounds. “This guy has always supported me. I love him, his family, his coaches. It was an honor to be in the ring with him,” commented the winner, to the New York Times. And added “I was trying to hurt him, but I was afraid he would hurt me. I did my best. » Pleasure shared by Iron Mike who declared: “I am happy, I have nothing to prove to anyone other than myself, I was happy with what I was able to do”.

An unbalanced encounter

The match, much commented on on social networks, was broadcast live on Netflix. The promise of a great show attracted more than 72,000 spectators to the arena who had to pay up to two million dollars (nearly 1.9 million euros) to get a seat. But the meeting fell flat. Many considered it disappointing and especially worrying, given the age of Mike Tyson. Specialists were concerned about the risk of injury to the nearly sixty-year-old, even if arrangements had been made, in particular by shortening each round by one minute.

But the lure of gain was stronger. $20 million was promised to the winner. Even though he suffered a bitter failure, the loyal supporter of Donald Trump is not ready to hang up his gloves. When asked if this was the last time he stepped into a ring, he replied: « I don't think so? » . « Maybe I'll fight his brother »he provoked Logan Paul, brother of Jake and controversial character. « Son of a bitch, I'm going to kill you Mike »the person concerned retorted angrily.
