“Paul almost took pity”, “we can’t call it a fight”… the highly criticized Tyson-Paul duel

After a craze that continued to grow, the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has delivered its verdict. If the American influencer turned boxer easily won by unanimous decision (80-72, 79-73, 79-73), the star fight received numerous criticisms.

Eight two-minute rounds which will not have satisfied fans of the noble art this Saturday morning. Shortly after Jake Paul's eleventh professional boxing victory over Mike Tyson by unanimous decision (80-72, 79-73, 79-73), the criticism began to rain down.

In question, a “non-match”, since the American influencer made short work of the legend, simply leaving him the first two rounds. After these 16 minutes of combat, the statistics are meager. The Cleveland native has “hit” 78 times, compared to 18 for Iron Mike. Blows which at no time gave the impression of approaching a potential knockdown.

“The saddest spectacle in boxing history”

Worse still, in the fifth round, only four blows were struck between them, yet, during the post-fight interview, Jake Paul assures: “I was trying to hurt him a little. I did some my best.” A statement notably questioned by The Mirror US: “Paul almost took pity on him (Tyson) as the pace dropped.”

For its part, The New York Times collected the opinion of its readers… nothing very glorious. “I'm not even going to call it a fight. It looked like two guys who really didn't want to get hit because they already had their check in their pocket,” reacted a spectator, while others evoked a certain “shame for watching this event.” The US Sun also asked its readers' opinions and it was no better. “The saddest spectacle in the history of boxing,” one spectator wrote to them.

The show was not there in Dallas, and KSI, an American influencer, also had his say, to denounce the difference in age and level between the two stars of the evening. “What a sad match. The whole fight was sad. Mike Tyson is twice the age of Jake Paul. There has never been a close match. I can't believe this elder abuse didn't happen. not been sanctioned. It’s just disgusting,” he said in an Instagram story.
