There’s not much for Rangers fans to cheer about just now, however, there is someone who they can throw their weight behind in an event about to be watched by millions around the world.
The world of sports entertainment and YouTube athletes has exploded over the last decade; young Light Blues fans are more likely to name KSI as their hero as they are one of the 95 Hall of Fame members.
At the forefront of the new generation of celebrity are the brothers Paul, Logan and Jake to be precise, with the latter about to step into the ring with the legendary “Iron” Mike Tyson, a man with a Rangers connection.

Now 58-years old, Rangers strip fan Tyson is unlikely to have the granite chin or have the devastating speed that made him the youngest ever heavyweight world champion at just 21 before his world fell apart – much of it self-inflicted.
For context, Paul has a handful of boxing “bouts” to his name, with his most recent being against Tommy Fury, the least competent of those with the boxing family name and someone who spends more time on reality TV than in the gym.
Fury beat Paul relatively comfortably, but this hasn’t stopped him calling out Tyson and one of the finest pound for pound boxers there has ever been – Canelo Alvarez.
So why is Tyson the one that those of a blue persuasion should get behind?

In 2000, Tyson was taking part in a global boxing tour and, with a soft spot for Rangers, Ibrox had been identified as a potential venue.
Football fixtures got in the way, however, as told to the Daily Record some years later, he still had an affinity for Scotland:
“It’s awesome to know I’m still so highly thought of in Scotland and I feel humbled by the welcome I’m about to receive in Glasgow and Aberdeen.
“I read a lot about Scottish history and I know the story of Braveheart William Wallace, which is why I’ve asked to visit Stirling Castle during my time in the country.
“I’m also going to be visiting Loch Lomond because my interests now include wildlife and the environment.”
Not only would a victory be a morale one for those of a certain age who are told that they are past it, it would be nice for Rangers fans to finally be able to celebrate something this season.
The manager could do with someone who has Tyson’s fighting spirit in his squad just now, wonder what he’s like at right-back…?
