Our national team continues its adventure in the “A” division of the League of Nations in Zurich, where it will host a traditionally difficult opponent, the Swiss national team (8:45 p.m.).
Serbia is in a very uncomfortable situation before the last two matches of the League of Nations group stage. Our boys are currently third in group “4”, but they have a chance to meet in the quarter-finals, as well as to be eliminated from the group.
Namely, the “eagles” are three points behind the Danes, and they are ahead of the Swiss by the same amount, and it will be very interesting to follow this fight to the very end.
In the last round, Serbia welcomes Denmark, and it would be ideal if the victory in that match would lead us to the quarterfinals, because we would attack the “red and whites” in front of the full stands of the “Dubočica” stadium in Leskovac.
There are several options to make this happen, and the safest is to win three points in tonight’s match against the Swiss, because even in the case of Denmark’s victory over Spain, we would remain behind by three points.
In case we win a point, we need the Danes not to overcome the “red fury”, and if we lose, the Spanish would have to celebrate in Copenhagen to have any chance.
The match in Copenhagen is being played at the same time as the one in Zurich and everyone will be closely following the changes in the results in order to be able to adjust tactically on the field.
As for the duel between Serbia and Switzerland itself, the “Sajdžijas” have regularly been a thorn in our side in the past. At the last two World Championships, we played decisive duels with them to advance to the round of 16 and were defeated on both occasions.
First, they turned us around in Russia and beat us with 2:1, while in Qatar they did it again, admittedly much easier, although the final result did not show it (3:2).
We achieved one of the rare victories over the Swiss a little more than a month ago when we were better in Leskovac with 2:0 and we hope to be better than Murat Jakin’s team again who are struggling in the League of Nations and do not look like the team they are almost eliminated the English in the quarter-finals of the last European Championship.
What is interesting about today’s rivals is that they have big problems with scoring goals, they are very impotent offensively and in the course of the competition so far, Serbia is slightly better, finding its way to the net three times, compared to two goals from the Swiss.
The health situation is bothering both of them, the hosts are without Akanđi, Elvedi and Šer, who withdrew from the national team, while the guests cannot count on the brothers Milinković Savić and Ivan Ilić.
It won’t be easy for us in Zurich, but we think that the bookmakers underestimated us, we have the quality to win at least a point, which we showed in Leskovac, and for the braver ones, we predict that we will take the entire spoils from “Lecigrund Stadium”.
