Morocco hits Gabon, Comoros qualified, fiasco confirmed for Ghana

Automatically qualified for CAN 2025 as host country, Morocco still does not want to leave the slightest crumb to its opponents. This evening in Franceville, the Atlas Lions made short work of Gabon in these qualifications counting for butter (5-1). After Bouanga opened the score at the start of the match (4th, 1-0), Harkass (17th), Brahim Diaz (20th, 23rd), En-Nesyri (81st) and Saibari (90th) took turns putting out the hopes of their adversaries. Morocco remains leader of its group with a flawless record: 15 points out of 15, for 19 goals scored and 2 conceded. Gabon is second with one day remaining.

In the other matches, Angola, already qualified, held off Ghana (1-1), which now seals the fate of the Black Stars. We knew they were close to a fiasco with a possible non-qualification for this CAN 2025, and the miracle did not take place this evening. Despite a goal from Jordan Ayew (18th), the Angolans dampened their enthusiasm with Zini's equalizer in the second half (63rd). Second nation with the most participations in the CAN, and present in the last 10 tournaments, Ghana will therefore remain at home. Finally, the Comoros, a small archipelago of only 852,000 inhabitants, repeated the feat of 2021 by qualifying again for a CAN. The Coelacanths won 2-1 against Gambia, and are guaranteed to finish, at least, second in their group. Rafiki Said and ex- player Myziane Maolida scored for Stefano Cusin's men.
