Mozambique’s national football team the Mambas will host their counterparts from Mali at 6:00 p.m. this evening at the Zimpeto National Stadium in a match for the fifth round of Group I for the final stage of the e Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled for next year in Morocco.
Yesterday morning, the national team held its last training session at the match venue, focusing more on finishing, given the importance of this match for achieving yet another dream, which is consecutive qualification, after the team’s presence at the CAN-2023 in Ivory Coast.
A victory is enough for Mozambique to make its dream come true, as it leads the group with eight points, the same as Mali, who were held to a 1-1 draw by the Mambas in Bamako in the first round match.
Even if they lose, the Mambas can go to the African Cup of Nations in Morocco if Eswatini beats Guinea-Bissau in another match in the group. This is because there are two places up for grabs, at a time when Guinea-Bissau, in penultimate (third) position, has four points, and Eswatini (bottom) only one.
On the eve of the decisive match, the appeal of the Mambas players, coaching staff and directors alike is for a massive public presence at the stadium, which could be decisive for the team’s victory.
