The 9th edition of Heart of the City in Lights was launched this Thursday evening in the Écusson at Montpellier. The screenings delighted visitors while expecting a larger crowd Friday and Saturday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Attractiveness and vibrating together

“Attractive, festive, family-friendly and above all magical.” Alban Zanchiello, trade delegate, sums up Coeur de Ville en Lumières as follows. At the foot of the Arc de Triomphe before the launch of the projections André Deljarry, president of the CCI Hérault, is grateful to the municipality: “Thank you for continuing and magnifying the event that we initiated nine years ago. It’s attractive for traders and it kicks off the end-of-year celebrations.” The regional assembly being held on Thursday in Montpellier, its president Carole Delga was there and praised “a magnificent staging which combines heritage, urban perspective and economic attractiveness”.

In his remarks, Michaël Delafosse first wanted to “thank all the civil servants who are preparing this event” and highlighted “the work of our students from schools in the ecosystem of cultural and creative industries and artists”. At the end of the year, the mayor highlighted the values ​​of the event. “It’s important to add some magic, to share, to be together. When we do Coeur de Ville en Lumières we think of our restaurateurs, bars, our merchants and more broadly we think of people. It's great to have a free, accessible event where you can come with family and friends. Vibrating together is important.”

MHSC in the spotlight

If the theme of this ninth edition is the international influence of Montpellier, Coeur de Ville en Lumières could not miss the 50th anniversary of the MHSC, celebrating on the triumphal arch. In the presence of its president Laurent Nicollin, Michaël Delafosse told him: “This fantastic football club is an element of the heritage of our city. And because it’s hard right now, we’re here! This club is La Paillade but it’s La Paillade everywhere. This club, which is made up of nothing but passion, is a source of pride.”

And, briefly mentioning the new stadium file, he reaffirmed: “In our country, it is easier to be against a project but to do it is hard. There is an issue around the Mosson stadium built in the Mosson watercourse and we have a flooding problem. With the regional president, we discuss with the club how to support the project. We are at your side and at the side of the club.”

Eleven sites to discover

A few minutes later, the public was able to discover on the triumphal arch the projections “The Olympic triumph” and “50 years of history of the MHSC” produced by Objectif 3D students. Another story told a few meters away, that of the plant garden, magnified by a play of lights that can be appreciated while strolling along Boulevard Henri IV. Saint-Pierre Cathedral pays homage to its neighbor, the Faculty of Medicine, by becoming an organic building. On the flower market square, the Prefecture is the canvas for the creation of students from the Brassart school with a lovely journey across the continents. The bright blue carnations of Studio M on Place Notre-Dame-des-Tables will perhaps be the occasion for a gourmet break.

The Saint-Roch church celebrates the patron saint of the city in a dreamlike way, while the Opéra Comédie parades its heyday in a spectacular manner and at the Hôtel Saint-Côme a couple forgets each other in a passionate tango. Another evocation of dance, or rather dances, in the courtyard of the Agora while in its theater games of video games made by students from four schools follow one another. Finally, the twelve “temple guardians” by Chinese artist Jian Qiong Er bring a welcome tranquility to the garden of the Maison des Relations Internationales. Always more pleasant on Thursday evening, the wandering should be more intense this Friday and Saturday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The City expects nearly 500,000 visitors for this ninth edition.
