Rain, snow, wind… Why next week’s weather promises to be rough in

The long period of calm weather observed in much of is definitely over. In recent days, the anticyclonic conditions which had reigned over France at the beginning of November had already been partly swept away by the return of a northeasterly flow, more conducive to precipitation. And, as Yann Amice, meteorologist for Weather & Co, explains, France will “find a westerly flow from Sunday evening”coming from the Atlantic.

Result: from Monday, “the weather will be disrupted throughout the country with the exception of the Mediterranean region”announces Météo France in its medium-term forecasts.

A very hectic episode between Tuesday and Wednesday

After an already gloomy Monday, particularly in the north of the country, the weather will seriously deteriorate from Tuesday, linked to a depression which will circulate between Ireland and Denmark. A trajectory particularly visible in the animation below, which notably represents the pressure levels expected in Europe between Monday and Thursday evening.

In the northern half of France, this disturbance will bring significant amounts of rain, although less than those which have fallen in recent weeks.

The majority of this precipitation will fall on Tuesday. The totals are still uncertain but, over the day, between 10 and 20 mm are expected over a large part of France, locally more, notably in Hauts-de-France, where it will continue to rain significantly on Wednesday.

The passage of this disturbance will also cause strong winds in the Channel corridor. Monday evening and the following night, the strongest gusts should reach 100 km/h, particularly on the coasts and those of Hauts-de-France. Very strong wind knots are also expected in the and the South-West on Tuesday afternoon, including inland. Powerful gusts could also blow on Wednesday in the South-East and Corsica.

Cold and potentially snow

After the passage of this depression, which should then powerfully affect Northern Europe, France will know from Thursday “a phase of transition”announces Yann Amice. The latter “may extend until Friday”.

These two days will be marked by what the meteorologist calls “a beautiful temperature accident”. In this case: a significant drop in mercury. In the northeast quarter, the maximums will only be positive by a handful of degrees. And as the image below shows, the minimum temperatures expected Thursday morning will also be relatively low, including in the Great West.

These very low temperatures are expected to cause frost and, perhaps, snowfall in certain areas, including in the plains. This will first be the case in the north-eastern quarter of the country, where snowflakes could even fall as early as Wednesday. But this could also be the case in the North and West. “ In , we will have 0 or 1°C in the morning, so with light rain, it is not impossible to have a few flakes! »warns Yann Amice. Météo Cities also mentions “more or less melting snow in certain regions of the North and especially the East”.

A warm spell for the weekend?

These hypothetical flakes, if they fall, should not persist for long. According to Yann Amice, Saturday November 23 and Sunday November 24 should see France “switch back to the South-West flow”which would result in a “rising temperatures” and, possibly, “a return of the wind”. « It will be a classic November situation”concludes the meteorologist.
