“I consider the Vendée Globe as my Olympic Games, it’s the Holy Grail.”

Friday November 8, less than 48 hours before the big start of the tenth edition of the Vendée Globe, Charlie Dalin (Macif) delivered his last impressions.

“I want to go back there”

“Everything is fine, I'm ready to go,” confides Charlie Dalin during his last press conference before departure, “I have can't wait to go backI can’t wait to do this new world tour.”

Newbie during the 2020/2021 edition, the skipper finished second after crossing the finish line in first position. Yannick Bestaven won the race thanks to a time bonus of 10:15 obtained after the rescue of Kevin Escoffier.

This Vendée Globe was only the second solo race by Charlie Dalin.

Four years later, the 40-year-old skipper has gained more experience. “I feel stronger than in 2020,” assures Charlie Dalin.

Maximum concentration for departure

Before the start, skipper Macif felt all the excitement around the Vendée Globe. “It’s great, there’s a lot of kindness and encouragement.”

During the first days of adventure, Charlie Dalin plans a “rather calm entry into the race” with a descent of the Atlantic which should go smoothly.

At the time of publication of this article, Charlie Dalin is in sixth position, 46 nautical knots behind leader Sam Goodchild.

A super favorite status

By his ranking during the 2020/2021 edition and his results, Charlie Dalin is one of the favorites of the eventor even the number 1 favorite.

“I’m absolutely not thinking about it,” swears the skipper. “I'm focused here because we have to check everything on the boat before departure. »

Focus on the smooth running of his race, Charlie Dalin does not “concern about the finality before starting” to get to the heart of the matter.

“The Vendée Globe is a race in its own right. It’s a rare race that takes place every four years,” proclaims skipper Macif.
