New eligible households must now register on an online platform to benefit from the assistance. Previously, the energy check was sent automatically to mailboxes.
Temperatures drop, radiators start working again. For some households, this new expense can weigh on energy bills. To help them, they can benefit from the energy check. But hundreds of thousands could miss out on this state aid. “We must request it for those who had not received it before”recalled Olga Givernet, Minister Delegate in charge of Energy at the microphone of France Bleu Occitane. In recent years, the energy check was sent automatically to mailboxes. But since the abolition of the housing tax, the Ministry of the Economy can no longer identify eligible households. Bercy has therefore decided to exceptionally send this check to the same households as last year. For new eligible households, you must make the request on the chequeenergie.gouv.fr website put online this summer. Out of 1 million households who could receive this aid, only 53,000 requests have been recorded.

“I know, it’s a bit complicated, we’re trying to find another solution”added Olga Givernet. The minister, however, assured that the measure was still sustainable in 2025 for a total amount of 900 million euros. Each year, the energy check is distributed each year to 5.5 million low-income households. To benefit from it, you must declare less than 11,000 euros per year for a single person. Its amount is between 48 and 227 euros and it allows you to pay gas, fuel oil or electricity bills.
