Conor Gallagher has praised the performance of midfield partners Jude Bellingham and Curtis Jones as they helped England to a 3-0 over Greece.
Both midfielders contributed to goals as the Lee Carsley’s men brushed aside the Greeks to return to the top of Group B2 with one match remaining.
Bellingham’s shot from the edge of the box bounced off the post and via the back of Greece goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, the ball rolled into the net to double the Three Lions’ lead.
Jones then rounded off a superb debut with a deft back heel flick into the bottom left corner from Morgan Gibbs-White’s cutback for England’s third of the match.
When asked to sum up his side’s performance, Gallagher was delighted with how professional his side were to secure victory:
“It was a brilliant performance, very professional,” Gallagher said. “We were desperate to give the fans a good performance and a good result and that is what we were able to do, so we’re really happy.
“From the first game against Greece at home we knew their threats and I felt like we dealt with them really well tonight. The counter attack, playing into the front and having runners – we stopped that a lot more and limited them.”
“I felt the yellow card was a bit harsh if I’m being honest and because of that I felt like I had to hold back a bit. It was a disciplined performance.”
The 24-year-old was also full of praise for his midfield partners Jones and Bellingham after the pair’s starring roles in the win:
“Top, top players. It was a pleasure for me to play with them in midfield. I felt like we combined well together on and off the ball in a great performance.”
