Domenico Tedesco: ‘It’s difficult to say that I am satisfied with our Nations League…’

The Red Devils lost this Thursday evening against Italy (0-1) on the fifth day of the Nations League. Players coached by Domenico Tedesco must therefore give up on qualification for the rest of the competition.

We started our meeting very badly. We put very little intensity during the first twenty minutes. It’s not easy to press this Italian team because they play with a lot of confidence. Their game is so fluid. We lost too many balls at the start of the game, the opposite would have allowed us to run them more. We were able to adjust all of this when we returned from the locker room, with a few changes toointroduced the coach after the defeat.

“In possession of the ball, we had already played like this against . Playing with two attackers, however, was a little different. Our organization when we didn’t have the ball was because we had had to adapt to the players available. It wasn’t easy, we had to adapt our plan during the last days before this match. We had more central defenders than full-backs, for example.”

Before analyzing the Belgian campaign in the Nations League more generally: “We had good and bad moments. It’s difficult to say that I’m satisfied. We were able to show things, but I warned that we were going to use many young players. There is one match left, It won’t be easy because the recovery time between the two matches is very short. Despite the fact that our team is young, I am confident for the match against Israel on Sunday. France, we must be able to show things against the Israelis.”

The coach was also questioned about the unproductive association between Romelu Lukaku et Loïs Openda. “We see a lot of potential, they are happy to play together. We have to find a good solution. Romelu is a target, an attacker who can be found easily. When it comes to protecting a ball and playing like that , he’s the best in the world. Loïs has to work around him. We have to try again and again to find out how it can work better. I think they have to play very close. one from the other.”
