The 40 skippers participating in the 2024 Vendée Globe took the start of the race on Sunday November 10, in front of several thousand spectators ready to follow their exploits. How to follow the progress of the sailors, and the ranking in real time? Europe 1 takes stock.
They set off from Les Sables-d'Olonne on Sunday November 10 to cover more than 45,000 km across the oceans: the 40 skippers registered for the Vendée Globe 2024-2025 edition are battling it out on sometimes choppy waters. These sailors set off at precisely 1:02 p.m., under the gaze of several thousand spectators eager to follow their exploits.
Precisely, so as not to miss a moment of the progress of the various competitors, the organizer offers an updated ranking of participants, and interactive mapping to locate them in real time. The latter makes it possible to compare the distance covered by the leader with those of his pursuers, and thus visualize the gap which separates all the competitors.
A record in 74 days
As a reminder, the 40 skippers entered must complete a journey of more than 45,000 km. They go down the Atlantic Ocean, go around Antarctica avoiding an exclusion zone, then go up the Atlantic Ocean towards the South American coast to reach the start-finish town of Les Sables-d'Olonne.
If there is no precise end date for the event, the first skippers who will touch land in Vendée should arrive after more than 70 days of adventure. The record for the event is thus held by Armel Le Cléac'h, who completed the race in 74 days, three hours, 35 minutes and 46 seconds, during the 2016-2017 edition.
