At a press conference on the eve of the match against Burkina-Faso, Pape Thiaw, the coach of the Lions of Senegal, revealed the objective of his team, which travels to Mali to face Burkina-Faso, counting for the 5th day of the CAN 2025 qualifiers.
The meeting between Senegal and Burkina-Faso is extremely important for the two teams, who are looking to take first place in group L. Burkina-Faso, first with the same number of points as Senegal, is ahead of the Lions of the Téranga on the goal difference. With 10 goals scored and 3 conceded, Burkina-Faso is ahead of Senegal by just one point, who have scored 7 goals and conceded just one, after 4 matches.

Pape Thiaw, at a press conference, announced that Senegal is only aiming for first place in this group. “It’s going to be a difficult match because each team wants first place. We came here to look for this first place. I was present for the first leg (1-1). We were all in pain when we conceded that goal at the last second, but the following matches were never the same. Both teams want the points to be first. We are going to do everything we can to approach this match well and take the points” declared the Senegalese technician.
Senegal, which finished first in its group during previous qualifying campaigns, does not want to break the rule. “We have two days left and a direct confrontation against Burkina Faso which is ahead of us. We’re used to finishing first in the playoffs and we want to continue that momentum, which is going to happen in this match. So, we will do everything to take the points, which is important for the status of Senegal. All our matches are finals. It’s going to be a tougher match than against Malawi. Afterwards, there will be another “final against Burundi” a conclu Pape Thiaw.
