“An outrageous, unworthy and political prosecution”, denounces Sébastien Chenu

Five years in prison, including two convertible farms, and five years of ineligibility were requested against Marine Le Pen in the trial of the affair of the parliamentary assistants of MEPs from the National Front party (now National Rally), Wednesday November 13, 2024 .

A requisition from the prosecution ” policy “ denounced the vice-president of the National Rally, Sébastien Chenu, on the set of BFMTV. He lambasted a floor “outrageous, unworthy and political”. “The political maneuver is obvious”, he insisted. If confirmed, the ineligibility sentence could seriously hamper the far-right leader's ambitions for the 2027 presidential election.

“The unstated goal is to eliminate Marine Le Pen”

The trial is expected to last until November 27. The deliberation is not expected before the beginning of 2025. The representatives of the prosecution also called for sentences ranging from 6 months to one year in prison with fines and ineligibility sentences against the 24 other defendants. “The folder appeared empty”, denounced Sébastien Chenu, who was in court alongside Marine Le Pen at the time of the indictment.

For the vice-president of the RN, “the unstated goal” of these requisitions “is to eliminate Marine Le Pen and ruin the National Rally”. “Preventing the leader of the opposition would be an electric shock, never seen before”, he added.

“We are not preparing Marine Le Pen, we are preparing for the post-Emmanuel Macron era”

The former Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin estimated, for his part, that he “It would be deeply shocking if Marine Le Pen were deemed ineligible and, thus, unable to stand before the vote of the French people.” Asked about this unexpected support, Sébastien Chenu said: “He speaks as a Democrat, as a Republican. »

The vice president “do not consider” not that Marine Le Pen could be ineligible. “We are not preparing Marine Le Pen, we are preparing for the post-Emmanuel Macron era”, he asserted.
