Shortly after 9.30 p.m., gas escaped from a grill in a buvette in the Schluefweg ice rink center for reasons that are currently unclear, resulting in a flash fire. Two women and two men who worked in the buvette suffered serious and moderate injuries, according to the Zurich cantonal police.
A 76-year-old man was seriously injured in the accident. Two women aged 19 and 61 and a 77-year-old man were moderately injured. After initial treatment on site, they were all taken to surrounding hospitals.
The exact cause of the event is being investigated by the fire investigation service of the Zurich Cantonal Police. The material damage caused is estimated at several thousand francs.
Together with the Zurich cantonal police, the Kloten fire department, the Kloten city police, the Bülach hospital rescue service and the paramedics from Schutz & Rescue Zurich with emergency doctors, the Limmattal hospital rescue service and representatives of the city of Kloten were on duty.
