Donald Trump had barely been elected when a long shiver ran down the spine of European officials. Caught between the Make América Great againand Chinese voracity, the old continent, in order not to be crushed, will have to find some new muscles to show to the rest of the world.
“If we decide to remain herbivores, the carnivores will win,” warned Emmanuel Macron. Extending the metaphor, the Frenchman would like Europe to become “omnivorous”.
An image that allows you to explore a new corner of the “complex thinking” of the tenant of the Élysée. The words used choose to summarize the balance of the world as a law of the jungle; a binary world where only two roles exist: prey or predator; a planet version of La Fontaine's fables where “The right of the strongest is always the best”. But, timidly, Emmanuel Macron is not suggesting that Europe show its teeth. He is content to appeal to the “at the same time” of the diet.
For lack of ambition or realism, the cordon bleu lover only offers an “opportunistic” regime which amounts to putting into one's mouth what one has under one's nose: when I can, I devour the weakest. Otherwise, I make do with a handful of strawberries or some crumbs that we kindly left at the bottom of the trash can.
In short, when we have to face tyrannosaurs, Macron only recommends transforming a rabbit into a bear.
On paper, a bear doesn't seem like such a bad thing. Its polar version is even often presented as the most ferocious animal on the planet…
So fierce that we make them… soft toys for our children.
So fierce that it is…on the verge of extinction.
For the tyrannosaurs to finally let go of their steak, it took gigantic volcanic eruptions and a 10 kilometer meteorite.
To make the polar bear disappear from the world, all you have to do is turn up the heat a little.
If it simply becomes omnivorous, Europe risks quickly becoming the cuddly toy on which carnivores will wipe their blood-stained claws.
