It's time for love on Arte. The channel broadcasts this Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 8:55 p.m. Chronicles of a fleeting affair. This film is by Emmanuel Mouret, the director of other romances known as Mademoiselle de Joncquières or The of Loving. In Chronicles of a fleeting affaira single mother, Charlotte (played by Sandrine Kiberlain) and Simon, a married man (played by Vincent Macaigne) begin an affair. A relationship that was initially supposed to be solely carnal. But for the two lovers, not having feelings for the other is easier said than put into practice… In a fairly spring-like atmosphere, the plot of the film is divided between nature and the city, in places chosen with care by the director. In an interview with Emmanuel Mouret, carried out for Telerama and published on March 14, 2023, the filmmaker tells us more about these places which hosted the filming of the film.

Chronicle of a temporary connection: the constraint of filming in a restricted area

For economic reasons, but also to promote the intimate nature of the film, the director had to respect certain constraints concerning the choice of filming locations. During the interview, the filmmaker explains: “We try to shoot them over a limited number of days, and to bring together as many sets as possible within a fairly tight perimeter.“In addition to submitting to technical requirements, Emmanuel Mouret chooses these settings from a stylistic perspective. Indeed, it is important for him that the geographical locations are consistent with the romantic intrigue. On this subject, the filmmaker specifies: “Sentimental issues are often linked to geographical issues. In the case of Chronicles of a Passing Affair, one of the things I knew for sure was that I didn't want to shoot in a Southern town. […] I found it more beautiful that this story was not bathed in golden light with the sea and the beaches around it. But in a completely urban and rather gray setting, even if that doesn't mean that the result is gray!

Decors full of history for Chronicles of a fleeting affair

In Chronicles of a fleeting affairEmmanuel Mouret chose to film certain sequences in the famous Louis Carré house. In the past, the gallery owner Louis Carré decided to have this house built by the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto in the French department of , located west of . Passionate about art, its owner had brought together a certain number of exceptional works in the villa, such as paintings by Pablo Picasso and sculptures by Alberto Giacometti. Even though Louis Carré's incredible collection was put up for sale after his death, the house and its garden were both classified as a historic monument in 1996. It is therefore this residence steeped in history which hosted the filming of Chronicle of a fleeting affair the time of certain sequences. In the film, the residence is owned by Louise (played by Georgia Scalliet). To explain the fact that she was able to acquire such a sumptuous house with a teacher's salary, the director attributed the profession of architect to her husband. Indeed, the choice of a house of this type was important in more than one way for Emmanuel Mouret. The director explains: “Finding this place took a very long time. For the sake of variety of locations, Louise had to live in the suburbs. And at her house, we had to be able to shoot two very long sequences, with a lot of dialogue. We therefore needed space to allow the movement of bodies.
