Kianoosh Sanjeri, a journalist and political activist, committed suicide in protest against the numerous summonses and arrests of himself and political activists.
A relative of Mr. Senjari confirmed this news in an interview with Radio Farda on Wednesday evening, November 23, and a number of civil and political activists have also echoed it.
Since 2016, when Mr. Senjari returned to Tehran from abroad to take care of his elderly mother, he was summoned and arrested many times by the security and intelligence institutions of the Islamic Republic.
Hours before committing suicide, this journalist announced his decision to end his life by publishing messages on X channel in protest against the arrests.
Mr. Senjari had stated on Wednesday morning that if “Fateme Sepehari, Nasrin Shakrami, Tomaj Salehi and Arsham Rezaei are not released from prison by seven o'clock today and the news of their release is not published on the judiciary news website, I will risk my life in protest against the dictatorship of Khamenei and his partners.” I will end it”.
In one of these messages, he emphasized: “No one should be imprisoned for expressing their opinions. Protest is the right of every Iranian citizen. My life will end after this tweet but let's not forget that we die and die for the love of life, not death. I wish that one day Iranians will wake up and overcome slavery”.
In another message, he said: “The life of a homeland owes me to think only of life and not of the homeland.”
Some political and social activists confirmed the suicide of this media and political activist by publishing messages on social networks.
Kianoosh Senjari was born in 1361 in Tehran. He turned to student activities at a very young age and after being arrested several times in Iran, he migrated abroad. Mr. Sengari first went to Norway in the eighties and after a while he left for America.
During his stay in America, he worked for a while as a reporter with the Voice of America TV channel, but in 2015 he returned to Tehran to take care of his elderly mother and was arrested and sentenced to prison again, and after serving three years of his sentence was released
After his release in August 1400, this journalist revealed that the judicial and security authorities, in addition to the prison sentence, forced him to be admitted to the hospital and endured “9 times of anesthetization and forced treatment with electric shocks in the hospital.”
He also said that while he had returned to Iran to take care of his elderly mother, he was interrogated for a long time in the 209 detention center of Evin prison belonging to the Ministry of Intelligence. The Revolutionary Court sentenced him to 11 years in prison “in three minutes” and after enduring three The year of imprisonment was released.
Three years ago, in an interview with Radio Farda, Kianoosh Senjari, who faced the conditions of being wanted, arrested and imprisoned many times, spoke about the persecutions he had seen and the behavior of the prison officials, including sending the prisoner to psychiatric centers.
In another conversation with Radio Farda, which was held in connection with the presidential elections on July 8 of this year, he said that he would not participate in those elections and added: “Not voting is a vote for extremists” is false.
