“What I didn't like about Paris is what I miss today, the horns of your cars, the insults and the overly manly fingers.“Published at one o'clock in the morning this Wednesday, November 13, 2024, the new clip by Swiss artist Fox Kijang pays tribute to the victims of the Bataclan attack. A title that reflects the pain, emptiness and fragility felt by the singer at that moment.
Fox Kijang, passing through to record music in a studio in the capital, witnessed the tragic events that year. His song “don't laugh“, an anagram of the city of light, was written on a TGV the day after the attack and is intended to be a poetic tribute to the resilience, her own, like that of the bereaved French men and women.
Thes black and white images, shot with a small camera the day after the attack, show Parisian streets emptied of their inhabitants or show them gathered around wreaths of flowers, puddles of dried blood still visible on the sidewalks. “The whole city was moving a little on the sly” remembers Fox Kijang.
The artist chose to keep the poor definition of his images, “not in 4K” et “a little ugly“, a way for him to bring out the emotion of this particular day, between astonishment and incomprehension.
“I was struck by what I captured, Paris is a city that I don't like very much and which doesn't like me, we're not very friends, but precisely on that day what I didn't like not in Paris, that's what I missed“, explains the artist to our team in his studio.
An explanation which is found in the lyrics of the song, illustrating the feeling of loss and the impression of living in “a world that has completely broken“.
Fox Kijang and his musicians waited nine years before publishing this work, “out of respect for the victims” as explained on the artist's website. Is it also time to exorcise bad memories? “I wasn't really aware of the cathartic nature before that night… I keep this memory within me and I wanted to give this place to someone else who will allow me to do other songs in turn“, confides the singer.

“I write about what happens to me and what I see, I like to sing about reality, I don't do a lot of invented songs“, he continues.his bad experience in Paris will still have been fertile ground for the singer, who is regularly inspired by geopolitical events in the world to write.
