Alcaraz’s great performance in his match against Rublev at the ATP Finals: drop into the net, lob and backhand at the back of the court

Carlitos is back. The Spanish tennis player went to the duel against Andrey Rublev after suffering a tremendous defeat against Casper Ruud by 0-2, where the Spaniard did not even know where it was coming from. Two days later he took to the courts again to face the Russian. This time he already recovered, at least partially, and with renewed energy, and that was felt in his game. The quality details raised the fans present in the stands on several occasions and made the spectators who followed the duel from the screen vibrate. But one point in particular that stood out above the rest.

With a pink nose strip to be able to breathe, Carlitos jumped onto the courts to face Rublev and try to get a victory to be able to continue advancing in the Masters Cup or, at least, try, given that nothing assured his survival. Rublev was the first to serve and as soon as he put the ball in motion, it was evident that Carlitos, although he was not in full shape, was regaining his sensations.

At least, he was no longer wandering around the track, no longer crawling, totally out of place. The break of serve did not take long to arrive. With the score at 3-3, Alcaraz went one step further to take the Russian’s serve and roar again like he hadn’t done in a long time. Fist in the air and shout of celebration. A fact that was repeated two games later and allowed Carlitos to take the first set 6-3.

In the second set, Rublev put his forehand to work and victory began to hold out for Carlitos, unable to find any cracks in the Russian’s game. The points were passed without anyone being able to beat their opponent on the scoreboard. And then, an inevitable tie break arrived to decide the match. There Alcaraz did not fail and took sudden death to close the duel in two sets. Now he must wait to know the results of the rest of the matches and do the math to find out if he continues to advance in the ATP Finals or not.

Alcaraz not only showed signs that he had recovered from his illness, but also left quality details on the court, those that he usually signs in his games and that lift up the entire stadium. In the tie break, 4-3 for the Spaniard, this served to try to widen the gap. After exchanging several blows, the man from Murcia managed to return the ball after a right hand from the Russian. For this he even needed a great stretch, but the truth is that he managed to get a dropshot, which Rublev reached and changed the point. Carlitos, with his back to the net, threw a backhand lob at his opponent and then finished it off with a backhand to the back of the court, now unreachable for his opponent.

The three records that Carlos Alcaraz has managed to achieve before Rafa Nadal.
