More than 3,000 evacuated, streets flooded and several hospitals affected in Malaga by the passage of the Dana | Spain

Malaga is strongly suffering the effects of the damage with very intense rains. The province, where there have been more people evicted in the morning than the 3,000 last night, will maintain that red notice (the maximum, danger to life) until midnight. There, heavy rains have flooded some streets and several areas of the capital's Clinical Hospital, which has suspended all activities except emergency services while workers bail out the water; Health centers have also closed.

The capital has been left without a train connection, after the AVE with Madrid was cut shortly before two in the afternoon, as well as all suburban and medium-distance lines with Seville and the rest of Andalusia. Shortly after, Adif also announced the eviction of the María Zambrano train station in Malaga and the City Council has suspended the municipal bus service. The airport is operational, but one flight has been canceled and five have been diverted, according to the information available, until two in the afternoon.

The passage of the dana through the city is causing flooding, also in multiple points. At the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Malaga there has been a break in the channel through which the rains flow. “Damage is to be expected in these extreme situations. Tomorrow we will evaluate them and repair them (or the insurance companies will repair them),” they have stated from the University, which has interrupted all classes, as well as schools and institutes.

Likewise, heavy rains have filled streams, usually dry and through which water moves strongly. The Jaboneros stream, which divides the neighborhoods of Pedregalejo and El Palo, east of the city of Málaga, flows down at this time with a significant flow. In a channel that is usually dry due to low rainfall, the water falls forcefully to its mouth, just a few meters away. In the surrounding streets, the water has also flooded various roads, where cars continue to circulate with great caution, although some have not been able to pass due to the depth.

In addition, rainfall has increased the flow of the Guadalmedina River, which has left very infrequent images. “In Malaga city we have a tremendously safe and large dam,” said the mayor, Francisco de la Torre, referring to the El Limonero reservoir. “Guadalmedina is not going to create any problems for us,” he reaffirmed. The river has overflowed up the mountain, as it passes through Casabermeja, between Málaga and Antequera. Until now, 81 Andalusian municipalities have notified 112 of the activation of their Territorial Local Emergency Plan (PTEL), 48 of them in Granada, 29 in Málaga and 4 in Almería. This has been confirmed by the Emergency Coordination Center (Cecem 112 Andalucía) in a statement in which it details that the Ministry of the Presidency has also reinforced the management and technical staff in the 112 rooms and maintains close monitoring of the situation.

The rainfall has also forced the closure of three roads – two in Malaga and one in Campillos – and there are numerous incidents on other minor communication routes in the La Axarquía region. The rain has also forced the International Federation to suspend the start of the Billie Jean King tennis tournament that this Wednesday pitted Spain against Poland, which has been postponed to Friday.

Moreno Bonilla: “I will not take a minute to ask for the collaboration of the Army”

The president of the Board, Juanma Moreno, has assured, given the heavy rains that are hitting the provinces of Malaga and Granada this Wednesday as a result of a damage, that if the Army's “collaboration” were needed, it would not take “any time.” minute” in requesting it to face possible serious damages. In an appearance before the media on the occasion of his attendance at the ceremony to launch actions for the launch of the Alcalá de Guadaíra tram (Seville), the president defended that Andalusia has a “powerful” emergency service, where Infoca, for example, has 4,500 troops – while the Military Emergency Unit (UME) has 3,000 for all of Spain – and Moreno has highlighted that he has served in the Community Valencian. However, the Andalusian president has indicated: “At any time the Army's collaboration was needed, we would not take a minute to request it.”
