For three years, the president of the Metropolis has been living with this disease and continues to carry out his political functions. He also mentioned the various operations he has undergone, to explain some absences during meetings or celebrations that they have sometimes been criticized.
Having cancer, I know something about it, it's scary. Many patients find themselves isolated. In addition to medical suffering, there are psychological, emotional and social difficulties. Several forms of cancer are caught chronically at younger and younger ages. It's still a taboo subject. We need to talk about it and act.
Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, Mayor of Rouen, President of the Rouen Normandy Metropolis
Nicolas Mayer Rossignol first specifies that it is obviously not a question of making sick people work but of becoming aware that these situations can quickly lead to a form of isolation in the professional world.
“We want to be able to talk about this with the unions and the HR services of the city and the metropolis of Rouen. The professional community must be supportive and caring and our action plan must be inspiring for others.“.
The three stated objectives of this action plan are to:
- Fight against the isolation of people during their illness,
- Facilitate the return to employment,
- Develop a caring, aware and welcoming professional ecosystem.
The City of Rouen and the Rouen Normandy Metropolis wish to set an exampleunderlines Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, specifying the outlines of this action plan.
Among the city's proposals is its membership in Cancer@Work and My Cancer netWork, two associations with the particular objective of exchanging and sharing good practices to promote the integration of patients in companies.
Another axis, the development of links and exchanges on the subject of diseases, “via the establishment of dedicated meetings with directors, human resources“, specifies the press release published this Wednesday by the metropolis.
Intercommunity working groups should be created. These latter will be dedicated to “hear the difficulties and expectations“and to raise awareness among colleagues and their managers to”facilitate the link and then the gradual return to employment in good conditions” through the creation of a return protocol and the organization of mentoring.
The press release also mentions the invitation “proactively” people “to participate in collective moments (wishes, internal events, etc.) to maintain the link“, recourse to social assistance and participation in welfare.
