A few severe storms possible today

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Today is a First Alert Weather Day as we monitor the storm threat across the area.

Strong to severe storms will develop by late morning and that threat will continue into the afternoon. As this line of weather develops, storms will be capable of heavy rains, gusty winds and a tornado. Even though the risk area being highlighted by the Storm Prediction Center is only marginal, I‘m thinking some extra spin associated with Rafael’s old circulation could enhance the threat over us.

By tonight, the front sweeps through and we are looking forward to a beautiful end of the week and weekend forecast. Much cooler air blows in on Thursday and we have a nice stretch of fall conditions on the way.

Tropics – We’re monitoring a new area of disturbed weather in the Caribbean. This is expected to become Sara over the coming days. Expect the system to meander down in the Caribbean through this weekend before coming north towards the Gulf next week. Early signals next week show a very strong cold front sweeping south which should protect us in the long range.
